Javier Figueroa

Javier Figueroa was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1948. His family migrated to El Paso, TX when he was about six years old. His parents are Miguel Figueroa and the late, Martha "Benita" Raminez de Figueroa. He is a naturalized American Citizen.

Javier graduated from El Paso Technical High School in 1966 and worked himself thru college graduating from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in 1970, with a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences, and teaching certificates in Physics, and Chemistry; and a secondary major in Physical Education all levels. He has been employeed by the El Paso Independent School District since 1970. Javier became Science Chair at both High Schools he taught at in El Paso. He has also written curriculum for the Science Departments at El Paso Independent School District.

Mr. Figueroa spent eighteen years as an athletic coach in Football, Basketball and Track. He also coached Varsity Girls Soccer Team and won District.

Active in his community he has volunteered in the Boy Scouts of America for many years serving as; Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Cubmaster for three years, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for five years. He has served as the Wapaha District Advancement Chairman and as Order of the Arrow Chapter advisor. Mr. Figueroa was first Assistant Scoutmaster - Yucca Council 1993 National Jamboree Contingency. He has received many awards and recognition's including Eagle Scout 1962, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, Wapaha District Award of Merit, Scoutmaster Award of Merit, Woodbadge, Wapaha District Scoutmaster of the Year, Cub Master Award, Scouter's Key, Scouter's Training Award, and the highest honor bestowed upon a "scouter" the National "Silver Beaver Award."

Other volunteer activities include sponsoring the Texas Association of Future Educators (T.A.F.E.) and The Young Einstein Society (Science Club). He served as coach for the Academic Decathlon, High Q, and also served for the University Interscholastic League as a Science Coach. Mr. Figueroa has served as a member of the CEIC School Committee (Advisory Board) at Hanks High School, Indian Ridge Middle School, and Irvin High School. He also served as "Odessy of the Mind" coach.

Community Boards membership includes "Friends of Strings Orchestra Association Board of Directors" and the "Hanks High School Football Boosters Organization Board of Directors". Javier served as President the Board of Directors with Boricua Cultural & Civic Corporation, a Texas Non-profit corporation that promoted Hispanic Cultures by way of Children's Workshops and cultural presentations. He is the Publisher of El Boricua, an international, monthly, cultural, bilingual publication for Puerto Ricans.
